Marine Environmental Economics

What is marine environmental economics?

Marine environmental economics is a field that studies how the economy and the ocean environment interact. It is a study of both the economy and the right use of natural resources. It focuses on the extraction and the utilization of these resources while also on the waste like pollutants which is returned to the ecosystem. It investigates how economy incentives harm and benefit the oceans and how they could be the foundation of the development of sustainable legislations or lead us to new approaches for the protection of the aquatic environment. Environment economists study ecological concerns like renewable energy consumption and the creation of innovative hydroelectric power plants. Hydroelectric power plants for example are generators powered by turbines tuning the energy from fast-flowing water into mechanical energy resulting to electricity. Furthermore, they target the creation of pollution and biofuels waste control technics. The composition of efficient environmental management policies and economic measures like tariffs and transferable limitations can be used to regulate resource consumption and negative actions towards the environment.

Why is it an eco-friendly occupation?

Marine environmental economists state that the ocean is a priceless gift from nature and they aim its protection and its correct use. They want to promote that the responsible use of the ocean is required so that future generations can have access to it. They contribute in the development of ecological governance of the oceans with the use of their ethical principles, current innovations and policies .
